NET ZERO TEST FACILITY GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY
March 25, 2011
The Net Zero Energy Residential Test Facility located at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD held a Ground Breaking Ceremony this past Friday, March 25, 2011. This is among the latest Projects that will be managed by Therrien Waddell Construction and marks a significant commitment to sustainable practices and government contracting. The facility will be used to demonstrate that a typical residence in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area can produce as much energy from renewable resources as it consumes on an annual basis. NIST will use this project to develop and demonstrate measurement standards to achieve net zero energy homes by providing a real world model from field data. Design is based on LEED Platinum certification, and is a joint effort of NIST’s engineers, architect Building Science Corporation, and the Department of Energy’s Building America Program.
